New app locates business drivers through mobile phone

New software allows employers to turn fleet drivers’ GPS-enabled mobile phones into locating devices.

iPointlive’s cloud-based Mobile Employee Management software allows companies to accurately pinpoint an employee’s location in real time from any internet-enabled device.

The developers claim the package can cut fleet costs and driver distraction, improve fleet performance and productivity, and assist with health and safety compliance. They say it also eliminates manual timesheets and exaggerated mileage claims.

Company director Steve Cole said the Mobile Employee Management app is different because similar existing products relied on the employee telling the system when they start and finish work, and it can monitor the movement of employees, regardless of how they travel.

“Our software also has important monitoring features that can help promote safer driving practices,” he explained.

“With the ability to record safety data such as how fast the driver is travelling and how often employees make or receive calls or text messages whist driving, poor behaviour can be challenged and changed using iPointlive.”

If a user starts or ends their working day outside of their hours, the user can manual activate. The system automatically goes into privacy mode at the end of the working day so it will not track an employee out of hours. The system is disabled if the phone is switched off and the system records the last known GPS location.

Mr Cole added that the app minimises the drain on the phone’s battery life unlike other GPS applications.
