Contactless payment on Polar rapid chargers

News

Polar has announced that it will include a contactless bank card payment option on all new rapid chargers installed and retro-fit systems to existing rapid chargers.

With more than 450 rapid chargers already operational, BP Chargemaster – which operates the Polar network – will retro-fit the technology over the next year, opening charger use to anyone with a contactless debit or credit card.

Polar units are currently available on a pay-as-you-go basis, but require the user to register with the Polar Instant app before use. The latest announcement will streamline that process across the board, for those that aren’t subscribers to the Polar Plus service.

The government recently outlined that it wants to see all newly installed rapid and higher powered chargepoints provide debit or credit card payment by spring 2020.
