The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has announced that it is working on a smartphone version of its driving licence.
Using Apple’s Wallet app on the iPhone, Oliver Morley, chief executive if the DVLA, tweeted a photo of a prototype of the technology. Wallet already stores boarding passes and credit, debit, gift and discount cards.
Morley assured that the smartphone version will be an ‘add-on’ rather than a replacement to the plastic card. A driver's licence is due to be available in digital format by 2018.
This follows news that DeLaRoe, which prints British passports, are working on a paperless passport.
