VW brings in Apple engineer to develop digital strategy

Volkswagen (VW) has appointed Johann Jungworth as Head of Digitalisation Strategy, as part of its promise to focus on electric vehicles.

As head of department, Jungworth is expected to oversee the development of electric vehicles, while VW’s engineers are already refining and developing new ideas from its current electric powertrain, expected to be covered under the Digitalisation Strategy.

Jungworth already has considerable experience in both electric drivetrains and automated driving systems, having started out with Daimler and also becoming CEO of Mercedes Benz Research and Development North America. In the role he led developments in areas such as connected cars, user interface, autonomous driving, powertrains and eDrive and advanced exterior design.

Last year Jungworth was hired as Director of Mac Systems Engineering and was rumoured to be working on a potential Apple car development project.
