Blume dismisses driverless vehicle revolution

Porsche boss Oliver Blume has reportedly told German newspaper Westfalen-Blatt that the group has no plans to develop driverless cars, despite the production intentions of other manufacturers.

Blume said Porsche would not be teaming up with any tech firms, although the company does intend to launch a number of electric vehicles and a plug-in hybrid of its 911 model, with a range of 50km, by 2018.

The news comes as analysts Boston Consulting Group has predicted that by 2025, 13 per cent of cars will have autonomous features.

Porsche also plans to invest $1bn on production facilities to build the mission E, which will be the brand’s first ever all-electric model.
