Allego plans €100m expansion of UK ultra-fast charging network

Electric-vehicle charging company Allego has announced plans to invest around £86 million in as many as 1,400 ultra-fast charging points across the UK.

The programme, announced on 30 July 2026, is scheduled to run until 2030 and will target busy roads, retail and hospitality destinations and densely populated urban areas.

Motorways and locations around London will receive particular attention. The investment is being supported by Allego’s long-term infrastructure investor, Meridiam.

Allego is seeking agreements with retailers, restaurants, hotels, leisure companies, motorway-service operators and other businesses with sites suitable for charging hubs.

Under the proposed model, Allego will finance, build, own and operate the equipment. Participating landowners and businesses will therefore not have to pay the installation or operating costs and could receive long-term rental income for hosting the chargers.

Steven Salo, executive officer at Allego, said the investment reflected the company’s confidence in the British electric-vehicle market. He stated:

“The UK is electrifying quickly, but charging infrastructure must expand at the same pace,”

The company has already used similar partnerships elsewhere in Europe, working with IKEA in Belgium, supermarket operator REWE in Germany and Burger King in France.
Allego said it may also work with host businesses on loyalty programmes, customer offers and joint marketing campaigns.

The expansion is expected to create jobs in site acquisition, engineering, construction and the continuing operation of the chargers, although the company has not disclosed how many positions could be generated.

Allego intends to deliver up to 1,400 charging points by the end of 2030, but the eventual total will depend on the company securing suitable locations, commercial agreements, planning consent and electricity-grid connections.

No detailed list of locations or construction timetable accompanied the announcement. Allego is currently inviting UK retail, hospitality and leisure businesses to propose potential sites.
