Sustainability not yet a priority for small-mid fleets

An EU-wide survey conducted by Geotab has suggested that sustainability is yet to emerge as a priority for small-mid fleets.

The study surveyed 400 fleet managers in the UK, as well as in France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands and Spain.

The aim was to assess current companies’ maturity levels in terms of data usage, while identifying challenges and areas for improvement.

It found that when adopting telematic solutions, CO2 emissions data are among the least utilized metrics, and sustainability-related benefits are the least recognized from data insights.

Despite this, the majority of fleet managers believe their organisation will meet emission targets on time or even ahead of the deadline.

The survey underscores a common need for businesses to prioritise sustainability and integrate CO2 tracking into their fleet data systems.

As emissions regulations tighten, particularly in Europe, companies will need to leverage their data insights for reporting and compliance.

The findings suggested that telematics can play an important in supporting sustainability efforts and the challenges ahead.

The report also looked at the role artificial intelligence (AI) could play in fleet development.

While over half of fleet managers believe AI will enhance their ability to access data
quickly to drive actionable insights, 40 per cent are also concerned it will add layers of complexity.

Larger companies seem to be more optimistic about AI, as more than six in 10 of 500-4999 vehicles fleets believe it will improve data access and insights.
