Continental to move away from making petrol and diesel parts

Car parts group Continental has announced it is placing a stronger focus on making parts for electric vehicles.

The company sees the market and its customers moving towards electrification, and so its powertrain division is reducing investment in the hydraulic components business, primarily relating to injectors and pumps for petrol and diesel engines.

Instead it will provide high-voltage components and hybridization solutions.

This means that existing orders for injectors and pumps will be fulfilled, but new orders will play an increasingly marginal role.

Andreas Wolf, President of Continental's Powertrain Division explained: "In keeping pace with our customers and markets, we are now focusing more rapidly and systematically on our strengths and are targeting the future of electric mobility with our broad and successfully applied experience."
