EDF launches EV charger subscription with no upfront cost

EDF has launched an offer for drivers who sign-up to one of its electric vehicle tariffs, allowing customers to get an EV charge point for no upfront costs and a £40 per month subscription.
 
Through Pod Drive, a three-year EV charging subscription, customers get the Solo 3S 7.4kW home EV charger (RRP £999) for £40 per month that includes ongoing cashback, 48-hour service and lifetime warranty. Pod Drive typically has a £99 set-up fee, however with EDF’s offer, all upfront costs are removed, helping to make the EV transition even more affordable.
 
By signing up to EDF’s Go Electric tariff and the Pod Drive subscription, drivers can save up to £280 annually compared to standard variable, spreading the cost of getting an EV home charger along with servicing and warranty. Additionally, charging with GoElectric and subscribing to Pod Drive will save average drivers £372 a year compared to EV charging using the public charging network.
 
Customers could also earn up to £172.50 per year in cashback if they ‘smart charge’ with Pod , which schedules charging during off-peak hours when grid demand is lower, to maximise savings during less carbon intensive times.
 
This Pod Drive offer can be accessed by signing up to one of two EDF EV tariffs - GoElectric or Evolve - and registering interest in Pod Drive. EDF will then pass details onto Pod to set-up their plan and arrange their installation.
 
GoElectric offers customers five hours of off-peak electricity every night from 12am to 5am at just 9p/kWh, backed by 100% zero-carbon electricity.
 
Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF said: “Pod Drive is a major step forward in making EV ownership easier and more affordable for drivers by removing the upfront costs of getting a charger and allowing customers to spread it across a longer term, much like a phone contract.”
 
Pod Drive also includes free home EV charger installation[iv], a service accredited by Which? to its Trusted Trader standard[v], a 48-hour repair or replace service with 24/7 customer support and lifetime warranty.
 
To be eligible for Pod Drive, customers are required to have a smart meter and be opted into half hourly meter readings.
