Dorset is asking the public where to install its chargepoints

News

As part of Dorset Council’s mission to expand the county’s electric vehicle (EV) charging network, it is asking the public to help decide where they would like the next chargepoints to be installed.

It is paramount that Dorset Council has enough EV chargepoints to match the rising demand in transitioning to lower carbon vehicle options.

Having recently secured government funding to provide more chargepoints across the country, the council are calling on the public to help decide where the next batch of chargers will be. Chargepoints in residential areas are particularly important, making sure that everyone has access to charging infrastructure, even if they don’t have a driveway. This will be particularly important for homes and flats without off-street parking.

Already, Martinstown, Wool, Maiden Newton, Cerne Abbas, and West Moors have benefitted form increased investment in chargepoints.

Councillor Nick Ireland, leader of Dorset Council and cabinet member for climate, said: “Whether you already drive an electric vehicle, plan to get one in a few years, or never intend on getting one, electric vehicles are becoming more and more common. And it’s crucial that we help our communities and county prepare.

“We are committed to helping build a greener, more sustainable future for our country, and an improved charging network will be key to this.”
