ClearWatt launches Battery Scorecard to support used EV sales
ClearWatt has launched a major update to its rapid EV battery health test, providing better insights into the status of the battery in a second-hand EV.
Car buyers, dealers and fleet operators will now be able to access easy-to-understand metrics that go beyond superficial State of Health (SoH) values derived from the BMS (Battery Management System).
As many in the market are recognising, OEM-reported SoH percentages alone rarely tell the full story; leaving fleets, traders and end consumers exposed to potential financial risk.
As noted by James Coates, Director at Cleevely EV: “One of our vehicles started to rapidly lose performance, barely able to travel 60 miles on a full charge, despite the SoH value from the BMS reporting 95% battery health. We tested the vehicle with ClearWatt and within a 2-minute OBD scan we’d received a report highlighting a major cell imbalance, which was immediately followed up by a ClearWatt engineer.”
The Battery Scorecard analyses a wide range of battery health indicators, including Battery condition including cell voltages, thermal system and pack chemistry; Usage history including fast / slow charging proportion; Software insights such as OTA update status; and Performance and warranty insights.
The new Battery Scorecard sits within the ClearWatt Flash Report framework, where dealers simply use an OBD dongle and accompanying app to retrieve core data from the vehicle, which is combined with further proprietary data to generate a report in just a couple of minute
