Over 20,000 public EV charge points added in a year
According to the latest DfT data, provided by Zap Map, there were 64,632 public electric vehicle charging devices installed in the UK as of 1 July 2024, an increase of 20,612 (47%) from the same time last year.
Within the 64,632 devices, 12,474 had 50kW of power or above, which represents 19% of all charging devices, and 38,468 had a power rating of 3kW up to 8kW, which represents 60% of all charging devices.
There are 30,921 ‘destination’ chargers, which represents 48% of all charging devices, and 23,988 ‘on street’ chargers – making up 37% of all charging devices.
The data shows that from April 1 to June 30, there was an 8% increase (4,962) in the number of chargers on the public network. All regions reported an increase except the North East, which had a decrease of 1.2%.
