EV training academy opens in North Hertfordshire College
North Hertfordshire College has officially launched its ElectrAssure Training Academy in collaboration with EV charging specialist ElectrAssure.
The official launch event took place at the North Hertfordshire College’s Engineering and Construction Campus, a site that supports the development and upskilling of tradespeople and engineers to address industry skills requirements and gaps.
The Academy will support the delivery of North Hertfordshire College’s new programme, the Level 3 Award in the Design and Installation of Domestic and Small Commercial Electric Vehicle Charging Installations. The course is designed to enable qualified electricians to upskill in EV charge point installation and diagnostics as well as giving existing learners and apprentices access to modules on green and sustainable technologies.
North Hertfordshire College has worked closely with ElectrAssure to develop the curriculum of the new Training Academy, applying the charge point specialists’ nine years of experience in delivering bespoke EV charging solutions. Together, they have designed a practical learning opportunity which ensures learners can become an effective part of the EV workforce.
The ElectrAssure Training Academy will prepare learners for the changing industry requirements in line with green and sustainable technology growth, both locally and nationally.
The launch was attended by industry specialists, such as Gavin Posnett, (senior project manager at National Grid), local dignitaries like Adrian Hawkins OBE (chairperson of the Stevenage Development Board and the Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership), and representatives of local employers.
Gavin Posnett, senior project manager at National Grid, commented: “I have really fond memories of my time as an apprentice, so I'm delighted to see the return of the modern apprenticeship. I believe this partnership between ElectrAssure and North Hertfordshire College will equip the next generation of electrical engineers with the skills they need to shape a greener future for transportation.”
Kit Davies, principal and CEO of North Hertfordshire College, said: “This is a great example of how North Hertfordshire College is working closely with employers and industry specialists to identify and meet the skills gaps locally, preparing learners with the skills required both now and in the future.”
Alun Davies, operations director of ElectrAssure, said: “We are really pleased to be working with the College on this training academy to provide skills delivery identified and required within the industry. The creation of the ElectrAssure Training Academy enables electricians to access this training locally and supports the development of sustainable technologies and skills required to deliver and support the growing requirement for electrical vehicle charge points locally, regionally, and nationally.”
