The UK Government's recent announcement to eliminate the country's net contribution to climate change by 2050 has created a renewed focus on decarbonising road transport.
There have been calls from the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) to end the sales of non-zero emission cars, vans and motorcycles by 2035 – five years earlier than the government's deadline of 2040. It states that cars and vans can switch to electric vehicles cost effectively.
Optimisation specialists Trakm8 in partnership with GreenFleet questioned fleet and transport managers on their current and future usage of electric vehicles.
A positive aspect was half of respondents already had electric vehicles on their fleet, and 73 per cent said they are actively looking at purchasing them.
But 62 per cent of those surveyed did not feel they are getting the best ROI from their EVs. This suggests the business case for electrification still needs addressing, with a process to mitigate the risks and make EV fleets more cost effective.
