KGM Musso EV review
KGM Musso EV on the EV Rally 2026

After more than 1,000 miles on this year’s Mythbusters EV Rally, the KGM Musso EV proved that an electric pick-up doesn’t have to drive like a truck, delivering the refinement and composure of an electric SUV with the practical addition of having a load bed

What is it?

Formerly SsangYong Motor Company, KGM has released its first fully electric pick-up for the UK – the Musso EV – bolstering a corner of the commercial vehicle segment that has been slow to electrify.

It shares its name with KGM's established diesel Musso, but the two vehicles are fundamentally different underneath. The EV uses a monocoque architecture rather than traditional pickup construction. This gives it a noticeably more SUV-like character and refinement.

It has a 690kg payload and 2.3-tonne towing capacity - which although is less than some diesel pick-ups, will be good for many fleet applications.

What range does it have?

The Musso EV has n 80.6kWh BYD lithium-iron-phosphate battery with a quoted WLTP range of up to 240 miles, and our test showed that to be realistic. However, there is a small but notable drop in estimated range when the air conditioning goes on. Load, speed and towing will also have an impact, so fleets should bear that in mind.

There's also adjustable regenerative braking, operated through steering-wheel paddles, which can help maximise efficiency.

KGM says the Musso EV can rapid charge from 20-80 per cent in 31 minutes.

There's also vehicle-to-load capability, allowing the battery to supply power to equipment — potentially useful for tradespeople and mobile workers.

How does it drive?

With 339Nm available instantly and a motor on each axle, the Musso EV has plenty of take-off. KGM quotes 207PS, and acceleration to 62mph is around eight seconds. That makes it considerably more energetic than the usual diesel pick-ups.

The power delivery is smooth and predictable, with the AWD system automatically distributing torque between the axles.

The suspension deserves credit, too. The rear uses a self-levelling system designed to maintain stability as the load changes.

Inside, it's considerably more refined than a traditional pick-up. The cabin is spacious, with a comfortable upright driving position and excellent visibility.

One point to note however is that various safety systems - such as lane keeping and driver monitoring - are pretty intrusive. While these can be turned off, they are re-set every time the vehicle is turned off.

The dashboard has a pair of 12.3-inch screens incorporated into a panoramic display. There's plenty of standard equipment, too. Heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, dual-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, 360-degree camera, navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto all feature.

What does it cost?

The Musso is well-priced at £39,995 including VAT with the £5,000 Plug-in Van Grant.

For company drivers, the tax position is compelling. KGM quotes a 4% Benefit-in-Kind rate for 2026/27, with monthly BIK costs from around £30.

Why does my fleet need one?

The Musso EV combines the practicality of a working pick-up truck with the comfort and refinement of an SUV.

While its payload and towing capacity is less than some diesel pick-ups, it would work well for those carrying moderate loads such as trade people, utilities, local authorities, housing contractors and service fleets.

The low BIK rate is another significant consideration for businesses where vehicles are also used by employees outside working hours.
