Following the conclusion of the Lex Autolease sponsored Mythbusters EV Rally 2026, the most efficient and safest teams have been revealed by technology partner Quartix.
The AA and FSEW International Freight Forwarders emerged as the efficiency leaders, while Farizon Auto UK and GRIDSERVE topped the safety rankings.
Now in its sixth year, the EV Rally brings together teams from the fleet and transport sectors to demonstrate the real-world capabilities of electric vehicles, while highlighting the challenges and gaps in provision that still need to be overcome to accelerate their wider adoption.
For 2026, the Rally introduced separate routes for cars and vans, and trucks and trailers, reflecting the different operational demands and charging requirements of larger electric vehicles. Travelling from Exeter up to Solihull, across Wales, passing by Newcastle and finishing at Allianz Stadium in Twickenham, the cars and van route travelled more than 1,000 miles and the Trucks & Trailers route covered around 900 miles.
Efficiency and safety performance were measured using data collected by Rally technology partner Quartix. Trackers were installed in participating vehicles and efficiency was calculated using figures submitted by teams from their vehicle dashboards.
For cars and vans, efficiency was measured as a percentage of the vehicle's peak official manufacturer figure, based on miles per kilowatt-hour. Trucks and trailers were benchmarked differently because manufacturer efficiency figures vary according to gross vehicle weight, while car and van figures are quoted unladen.
The AA, driving a Toyota bZ4X Touring and Toyota C-HR+, recorded the highest efficiency score on the car and van route, achieving 88.5 per cent.
Kwik Fit followed with 85.2 per cent, while Speedy Hire took third place with 62.5 per cent.
On the trucks and trailers route, FSEW International Freight Forwarders, participating as part of Team SAGA Trucks in a Mercedes eActros 600, delivered the highest efficiency score at 140.2 per cent.
The event’s media crew finished second with 68.2%, recording the result in a fully laden 44-tonne Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 driven by Sara Sloman. GRIDSERVE placed third with 40.6 per cent in an electric DAF truck.
On the cars and van route, Farizon Auto UK topped the safety ranking with a score of 92.8 per cent in their new V7E medium electric vans, just ahead of the AA at 92.0 per cent. Lex Autolease completed the top three with 91.6 per cent.
On the trucks and trailers route, GRIDSERVE recorded the highest safety score at 99.2 per cent in a DAF electric truck, followed by FSEW for SAGA Trucks at 98.9 per cent.
The results provide a data-driven snapshot of how teams performed during the Rally, combining vehicle efficiency with real-world driving behaviour.
Beyond this challenge, this year's event was designed to tackle persistent myths and misconceptions about electric vehicles, examining issues including EV fire risks, battery and tyre recycling, the used-EV market and the availability of charging infrastructure for electric trucks.
