XPENG unveils electric L03 for 2027

XPENG has revealed its L03 SUV Coupé, which will be available in a choice of battery-electric (BEV) or range-extender electric (REEV) powertrains.

UK pricing and full specifications are yet to be confirmed, although deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027

Designed under the direction of former Ferrari exterior design chief JuanMa Lopez, the L03 will feature a wide stance, fastback roofline, frameless doors and an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.228.

Inside, the L03 features a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, head-up display, ambient lighting, intelligent climate control and lounge-inspired seating. Practicality is also a focus, with 37 storage compartments, generous luggage capacity and a towing capability of up to 1,500kg.

The model is built on XPENG's in-house technology platform and has been engineered to meet global five-star safety standards. Buyers will be able to choose between a fully electric version and the L03 PowerX, which uses the company's Kunpeng range-extender technology to deliver greater driving range while reducing charging concerns.

The L03 debuts XPENG's latest Next Generation Pilot (NGP) system based on its VLA 2.0 physical-world foundation model, which the company plans to introduce across Europe from 2027.

Rather than simply assisting with individual driving tasks, XPENG says the system is designed to interpret complex traffic situations in a more human-like way. Processing power comes from three Turing AI chips delivering up to 2,250 TOPS of computing performance.

The vehicle also introduces the international version of XPENG's XOS 6 intelligent cockpit. A redesigned AI voice assistant offers more natural conversations, contextual understanding and multilingual support, with additional functionality planned through future over-the-air software updates.

XPENG also announced a new partnership with Google Maps for vehicles sold outside China.

The collaboration makes XPENG the first Asia-Pacific carmaker to integrate Google Maps Auto SDK directly into its vehicles, allowing the company to build its own navigation interface around Google's mapping technology without requiring users to download the Google Maps app or rely on smartphone mirroring.

The mapping technology will also provide in-vehicle data to support both the new NGP (VLA 2.0) system and XPILOT Assist, with L03 customers set to be the first to benefit.

Speaking at the launch, XPENG Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said artificial intelligence would play a defining role in the future of mobility.

"We are building a Physical AI company. We want to use technology to change how people move and how people live," he said. "We believe technology should be for everyone."

As part of that strategy, XPENG confirmed plans to begin rolling out its IRON humanoid robot globally from 2027 while also commencing operational testing of its Robotaxi platform in China. The company said it is exploring future international partnerships to support autonomous mobility services in Europe and other global markets.
