James Rooney is leading the transition of Network Rail's road fleet to electric vehicles. Responsible for over 9,000 vehicles and working to an electrification target of 2030, James is at the forefront of this ambitious fleet decarbonisation programmes. Network Rail recently held an “EV Express” trial — a 240-mile journey from the company’s northernmost depot in Helmsdale to Glasgow across rural Scotland — testing the real-world capability of electric vans and trucks.
