Barratt Developments and Pod Point strike EV charging rollout deal

News

Pod Point has partnered with house builder Barratt Developments to deliver electric vehicle charging points at its new homes.

Running for two years, the agreement will see Pod Point become a key supplier for Barratt, ensuring its new homes have charge points across its consumer brand portfolio - Barratt Homes, David Wilson Homes and Barratt London. The agreement covers 19 of the group’s 29 operating divisions.

The new partnership with Barratt Developments follows legislation which came into force in June 2022 as part of an amendment to the country’s Building Regulations. The regulations aim to future proof homes and buildings and supports the government’s target to reduce the UK’s carbon emissions. All new residential developments in England must have one 7kW charge point for every residence with a parking space.

The partnership builds on a number of previous deals Pod Point has had with the housebuilder since 2018. To date, Pod Point has installed EV home charging infrastructure in over 3,000 properties across the Barratt Group.

Commenting on the new agreement, Steven Boyes, Chief Operating Officer at Barratt Developments, said: “As the country’s leading national sustainable housebuilder we are committed to helping improve the environment. Through this partnership we are ensuring that customers at a range of our new sites around the country are future proofed, equipped with convenient and reliable charging facilities. We know that delivering charging facilities for our customers is becoming more important which is why we are extending our partnership with Pod Point to deliver that to them.”

Erik Fairbairn, CEO of Pod Point said: “We’re really excited to build on our work with Barratt Developments. Their continued trust in us as a business is the result of our expertise in the building sector, our market-leading product, and our ability to deliver at scale across multiple Barratt sites. Today, around 80% of all EV charging takes place at home and growing EV charging with Barratt’s is a hugely positive step in enabling customers to choose electric and help decarbonise the UK roads.”

Pod Point’s charge scheduling function allows drivers to charge at specific times to take advantage of dual-rate tariffs which can significantly reduce the cost of charging.
