Transport planning tool helps WEGO improve efficiencies

WEGO Couriers has been using the My Transport Planner tool to improve the work it does for Pride Pharmacy, delivering vital goods during the coronavirus pandemic.

WEGO Couriers transports a variety of goods for Pride Pharmacy to patients of the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. WEGO has seen its workload dramatically increase as the organisation responded to the coronavirus pandemic, to keep vital drugs supplied to patients who were unable to attend hospital.

My Transport Planner’s algorithms optimise routes and delivery schedules, improving productivity while reducing costs and total fleet mileage.

Chris Beattie, founder and Company Director of WEGO, said: “Optimising our delivery routes is key to making our resources run better, saving us money. My Transport Planner is proving a useful tool for us on our Pride Pharmacy contract supporting the NHS in Derby, which is extremely busy due to COVID-19. Their deliveries to home addresses have soared as patients are self-isolating or shielding at home.

“It also saves us money by significantly reducing planning time. We can upload tomorrow’s jobs at the end of the day, assign jobs to the right resources within our fleet, and make sure that the routes are all balanced.”

Established in 1998, WEGO was a leader in green logistics and one of the first companies to use electric vans, deploying its first EV in 2003. Today, it delivers consignments using BMW i3 cars, Nissan e-NV200 vans, and e-cargo bikes. Following its success in Derby, WEGO is now looking at rolling out My Transport Planner to its other courier operations in Bath, Birmingham, Bristol, Leicester and London.
