Zipcar to offer ULEZ package for low-income car owners

News

Zipcar UK is offering a package of support to low-income and/or disabled London drivers who want to use the Mayor of London's scrappage scheme and switch to car sharing rather than car ownership.

The package worth a total of £200,000 will help in the next phase roll-out of London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) from 2021.

Zipcar will match fund the Mayor’s scheme by providing additional driving credit to a free-to-join-Zipcar account up to a value of £2,000, which could fund over 200 hours of driving.

Once added to the Mayor’s offer this would give drivers a total driving credit of £4,000 which could fund 400 hours+ of driving

The package is available to low-income and/or disabled London drivers who currently own a non ULEZ compliant car; who are eligible and approved by TfL (car and/or bike); who meet Zipcar’s usual eligibility requirements; and the first 100 applicants.

If an eligible London driver chooses to open a Zipcar account and add £1,000 driving credit to their account (from their allotted £2,000 allowance), Zipcar will also add an additional £1,000 worth of driving credit.

Vivienne Mackinnon from Zipcar UK said: “As London’s leading car sharing service we are delighted to be supporting the Mayor of London and TfL’s vehicle scrappage scheme and help Londoners make the switch to car sharing. We believe clean air in our cities is of utmost importance, which is why we operate a fleet of 325 electric vehicles, within our low emission ULEZ compliant fleet of 3,000 cars and vans.

“We are very pleased to announce that we are fully behind the roll-out of the Mayor’s ULEZ and are supporting it by providing Londoners with this exclusive offer, which match funds the Mayor’s offer of up to £2,000 per vehicle.

“For those who choose not to invest in the expense of a replacement car, and yet want vehicles that are fully compliant and are accessible to Londoners within a ten-minute walk on average, car sharing with Zipcar provides an affordable and convenient alternative.”
