Tesla boss Elon Musk has unveiled his company’s first electric pickup, the Cybertruck, which will enter production in 2021.

Unveiled at an event in Los Angeles, the all-electric pickup is Tesla’s sixth vehicle since it was founded in 2003, with a range of more than 500 miles on a charge.

Set to rival the Rivian R1T and the Ford F Series, the long-awaited Cybertruck showcases a significantly different design direction to the current Model S, X, and 3, as well as the forthcoming Model Y and Roadster.

The Cybertruck will initially come in three variants, with the single-motor model possessing a range of over 250 miles and a 0-60mph time of less than 6.5 seconds. The dual-motor model has an increased range quoted as more than 300 miles on a charge, while the acceleration time drops to a sub-4.5 second 0-60mph time. The tri-motor model has over 500 mile, plus the headline sprint time and towing figures.

Musk, who has previously boasted of the vehicle as ‘really futuristic-like cyberpunk, ‘Blade Runner’ pickup truck’, saw the launch of the vehicle go wrong, as testing the of the ‘bulletproof’ body strength of the electric vehicle resulted in smashed windows.

Tesla’s Model 3 sedan is the world’s top-selling battery electric car.
