New Enterprise Hub in Dundee equipped with EVs and chargers

Enterprise has expanded its vehicle rental and electric vehicle operations in Dundee with the opening of its largest Scottish site.

Enterprise has invested circa £900,000 in the new site on Kinnoull Road, which will complement its existing location in Seagate, enabling local businesses, residents and visitors to access vehicles both in the city centre and on the outskirts of the city.

To support Dundee’s push to increase use of electric vehicles, the site is equipped with two 22 kilowatt EV charge points that allow four cars to be charged at a time.

In addition to a wide range of low-emission cars and vans, four Enterprise Car Club vehicles will be located at the new branch for hourly and daily rental, including zero-emission plug-in vehicles. Car club vehicles are also located on-street at Courthouse Square and at East Whale Lane, where a plug-in Nissan Leaf has been operational for the past two years.

Enterprise has been a partner to Dundee City Council since 2019, piloting an employee car club in the city to reduce emissions and the number of business miles driven by Council workers. Enterprise introduced on-street car club vehicles for use by local businesses and residents shortly after.

Diane Mulholland, General Manager for Enterprise in Scotland, said, “We are continually expanding our network, services and fleet to bring greener travel options to the communities where we operate. We want to support Dundee’s outstanding efforts in driving uptake of electric vehicles.”

Mark Flynn, convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee, said: “Our drive to increase the use of more sustainable forms of transport in the city will only be achieved through a combination of approaches and with a number of different partners who share our vision. Electric vehicles, an enhanced charging infrastructure and car clubs all contribute to reducing emissions and improving air quality at those locations in the city where it does not meet current standards.”

The opening of the new branch has been prompted by significant growth in demand for rental vehicles, and has created 12 new jobs in the area, including eight graduate positions, providing increased job opportunities for the local community.

Sarah Glen, from Dundee, joined Enterprise’s award-winning graduate Management Training Programme as Branch Rental Manager after graduating from Edinburgh Napier University. She said: “Joining a growing, global business-like Enterprise is a terrific opportunity, especially as I was able to join here in Dundee, which is close to where I live. It is very exciting to be part of helping people travel more sustainably and improving air quality. Scotland is buzzing with COP26 – it’s a great time to be working with Enterprise.”

Enterprise’s new Dundee branch is located at Enterprise Rent A Car, 21 Kinnoull Road, Dunsinane Industrial Estate, DD2 3PZ.
