Brighton and Hove celebrates Clean Air Day

To celebrate Clean Air Day today (19th June), Brighton and Hove City Council is inviting its citizens to take part in three of the council’s transport initiatives.
The first is an active travel scheme, with people across the district being given a chance to have their say on plans to improve active travel along the seafront, such as better cycling infrastructure.
The second is Brighton and Hove’s Our City Transport Plan 2035, which aims to transform the way people move around the city, and covers all aspects: from EV infrastructure to cycle lanes to public transport.
The third initiative is expanding the city’s EV charging network, which is already one of the best networks in the country. Brighton and Hove Council has plans to install 7,000 new EV charging points between now and 2040.
Councillor Trevor Muten, cabinet member for transport and city infrastructure, said: “Air pollution is a serious public health issue and associated with between 29,000 and 43,000 deaths a year in the UK.
“That’s why we’re ramping up our efforts to provide clean transport and active travel infrastructure. But we can’t do this alone. We want to hear from residents so that what we deliver on the ground works for everyone.”
