Scottish public chargepoint consultation launched

Following the publication of the draft Implementation Plan on the Vision for public electric vehicle (EV) charging, Transport Scotland are holding a public consultation to seek opinions on their draft Implementation Plan, which has outlined how to deliver on Scotland’s plan for a nationwide EV charging infrastructure.
Scotland’s vision for a public EV charging network was published in 2023, and strategises a network that is comprehensive and convenient, meets the needs of its users, can be developed further with private investment, is powered by clean energy, and complements the wider sustainable transport system.
The draft Implementation Plan identified 15 actions that need to be taken by a wide range of stakeholders, including the Scottish government, in order to achieve Scotland’s aim of a holistic public EV charging infrastructure. The draft gives an overview of the switch to greener transport in Scotland, and highlights that last month, in November, Scotland met its target for 6,000 EV chargepoints — two years ahead of the 2026 deadline.
After London, Scotland has more public EV chargepoints per head than any other part of the UK, as well as the most rapid public EV chargepoints.
Transport Scotland welcomes the views from anyone with an interest in public EV charging across Scotland, and asks specific questions on a range of topics including how to enable continued pubic charging growth to meet current and future demand, and how to ensure that public EV charging meets all users’ needs.
The consultation will close for submissions in March 2025, with the publication of the final Implementation Plan scheduled to be in the following summer.
