Norfolk County Council has joined forces with Enterprise to bring a new car club offering to Norwich.

Enterprise Car Club took over the running of the car club in Norwich, which has been running since 2010, on Friday 6 May 2022. The service will bring a host of new and benefits to both existing and new customers, including business users travelling in and around Norwich.

New benefits include an enhanced iOS and Android mobile app, which allows vehicles to be unlocked and locked from a mobile device. Membership now starts from age 19 and comes with no minimum monthly spend. As well as meticulous cleaning of vehicles every 10 days.

Vehicles can be found on streets across the city in special car club bays as well as being available at the Heigham Street Enterprise Rent-A-Car branch. This community hub provides an integrated service, offering support and information about the services available.

Once signed up, customers will have access to the largest car club in the UK, with 1,500 cars and vans located in more than 180 cities, towns and communities across the UK. These include cars parked within 500 metres of 180 railway stations. This enables members to enjoy hassle-free motoring in Norwich or when travelling elsewhere in the UK.

Cllr Martin Wilby, Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Transport, said: “Having access to sustainable transport options is vital in our target to reduce carbon emissions across the county and our journey towards a net zero transport network so we’re excited to be working with Enterprise Car Club to provide this service to residents and visitors to Norfolk.

“It’s a great option for those who may arrive here via public transport as well as those who live or work in Norwich and want the freedom of having a car without the expense of owning a vehicle.”

Dan Gursel, Managing Director of Enterprise Car Club, said: “We are delighted to work with Norfolk County Council to launch this service. Car club is a great alternative to meet changing travel patterns. Research shows that 20% of car club members joined to make savings from not running their own car*, and we know that those with their own vehicle find value in using Car Club for when they need the occasional use of a second vehicle.

“We are excited to be able to offer a range of solutions including hybrid vehicles, allowing people to try new travel options, whilst helping contribute to cleaner air in the Norfolk area.”

Research from shared transport charity Collaborative Mobility UK shows that each car club car takes 18 private cars off the road*, reducing the number of cars on the roads to ease congestion and help improve air quality.
