Uber commits to being fully zero emission by 2040

Uber has committed to becoming a fully zero-emission platform by 2040, with all rides taking place in zero-emission vehicles, on public transit, or with micromobility.

It is also setting an earlier goal to have all rides take place in electric vehicles (EVs) in US, Canadian, and European cities by 2030.

Uber's measures to reduce emissions include expanding Uber Green to make it easier for riders to choose to travel in hybrids or EVs. For a small amount more, riders can now tap a button to request a ride in an EV or hybrid vehicle. Uber Green is launching in more than 15 US and Canadian cities, and by the end of the year, the service will be available in more than 65 cities globally. Riders using Uber Green will receive 3x Uber Rewards points for every trip taken, compared to 2x points for a typical UberX ride.

The company is also investing £615 million in resources to help hundreds of thousands of drivers transition to EVs by 2025.

It is also investing in its multimodal network to promote sustainable alternatives to personal cars, such as by offering bikes and scooters.
