Consultation seeks views on design of a Rapid Charging Fund

News

The government has launched of a 10-week rapid charging fund consultation, seeking views from a range of stakeholders, including chargepoint operators, motorway service area operators and electricity suppliers, on where chargers are needed most and how best to design a future Rapid Charging Fund (RCF).

The RCF will enable an ultra-rapid charging network by funding expensive grid connections.

The consultation looks at the requirement for funding on SRN A-roads, the requirement to future-proof connections at motorway service areas, and the design of the funding model. It also seeks views on how to ensure effective competition at motorway service areas, charging provision for heavy goods vehicles at motorway service areas, and how to ensure sufficient provision of chargepoints at motorway service areas.

The government will use the evidence gathered, as well as learnings from the RCF pilot, to help inform the design of the fund.
