Low-emission car club for Stirling town centre

News

Stirling Council has introduced a new car club in the town centre, with the choice of an electric Nissan Leaf as well as five hybrids.

The new Enterprise Car Club vehicles are all situated at convenient locations throughout the city, and can be rented by the hour or for longer, from only £4.50 per hour and £25.00 per day, and can be booked 24/7, 365 days of the year using a mobile app.

Enterprise Car Club is working closely with Stirling Council to promote low emission shared mobility and sustainable travel within the area. Enterprise Car Club has plans to expand the number of vehicles as well as introduce further low emission and electric cars in the next two years, contributing to reduced carbon emissions and potentially reducing the number of cars on the road.

Enterprise Car Club members can also drive any of the 1,400 Enterprise Car Club vehicles located at almost 180 other locations across the UK, in addition to the vehicles in Stirling. This includes 300 vehicles on street in many Scottish cities, including in Glasgow, Dundee, Inverness and Edinburgh.

To celebrate the launch, new members will be able to sign up to Enterprise Car Club for free and they will also receive £20 free driving credit when they top up with £20 – helping their budget to stretch twice the distance.

Councillor Jim Thomson, Environment Convener at Stirling Council, said: “Partnering with Enterprise Car Club is a positive step towards encouraging and enabling our residents to be more sustainable and to help make Stirling a better place to live. It is one of a number of important initiatives that we have introduced to help us achieve our sustainability goals in the city. We are delighted to see Enterprise already bringing electric and hybrid vehicles to the city as we see this as a major step to helping to reduce emissions in Stirling.”

Vice Convener for Environment and Housing, Cllr Danny Gibson, added: “Low carbon transport is a key element of our sustainability strategy and this adds another option to the growing list for residents.

“I would encourage Stirling residents to join the Car Club and I can say having recently done so myself how straightforward the sign up and verification process is.  I’ve already undertaken two zero-emission journeys of over 150 miles to visit family using the Nissan Leaf, as well as using the van on a one hour hire to change over washing machines.

“Having the booking flexibility and choice of vehicles available here in Stirling and across the UK is really excellent.”

Diane Mulholland, General Manager for Scotland/Northern Ireland at Enterprise, said: “We are delighted to announce that Enterprise Car Club is now in Stirling. Our network in the city is a vital chain in our goal of developing a joined up, low emission, easy to access network of vehicles in Scotland – and beyond. This means members can enjoy low emission motoring in Stirling – and also pick up one of our 300 vehicles across the country. Many of these are located near transport hubs and railway stations to help make them even more easy to access.

“With the support of Stirling Council, the newly available shared vehicles will enable more flexible, low emission and value for money access to a car when that is the best choice for a trip.”
