Local authorities in England can now apply for the Air Quality Grant Scheme 2020 to 2021, worth £2 million, for projects that improve air quality.

Applications should be for projects that provide air quality benefits in the next one to two years, as well as over the longer term by increasing awareness and encouraging behaviour change.

The Air Quality Grant Scheme has awarded over £64 million in funding to a variety of projects since it started in 1997.

Defra is inviting applications from local authorities in areas that exceed air pollution levels, local authorities that have one or more Air Quality Management Areas (AQMAs), and projects that deal primarily with particulate matter.

Applications must be received by midday 14 October 2020.
