Formula E finale confirmed for London

The season finale for the FIA Formula E championship has been given the green light to take place in Battersea Park, London.

A judicial review has been dropped following an agreement between Wandsworth Borough Council and the Battersea Park Action Group, which means the race will now go ahead as planned on 2-3 July.

The finale will be the only double header on the calendar, with practice, qualifying and the race taking place on both days on the 2.9km track around the perimeter road of Battersea Park.

Karun Chandhok, Mahindra Racing, said: “It’s quite amazing to be racing in the heart of London, I don’t think anyone really imagined this could happen. You would never think about closing the streets in a city like London, but because Formula E can run on smaller tracks it means we can run in areas like Battersea Park – there is no way Formula 1 would be able to run through there and that’s been a huge upside to the series.”
