VW plug-in concept set for Beijing unveiling

Volkswagen (VW) has released a set of images of its latest concept car to whet the appetite ahead of its launch at the Beijing Motor Show on 25 April.

The model, which will preview the next-generation Touareg, is classified as a premium SUV and comes with a plug-in powertrain.

Continuing the German manufacturer’s renewed commitment to electric vehicles, the Beijing Concept is a plug-in hybrid with 376hp and 516 lb ft of torque, giving the car performance figures of a 139mph top speed and 0-62mph time in 6.0 seconds. The model also possesses a weighted combined fuel economy figure if 78 MPG and a 31 mile electric-only range.

The concept vehicle will be officially unveiled and more details released on 25 April when the Beijing Motor Show opens.
