Mercedes-Benz has launched a new private car sharing scheme which is set to go online at start of December.

‘Croove’ is an app-based service that pairs up private vehicle owners and hirers and comes as part of Daimler’s move to transition from a premium vehicle manufacturer to mobility provider.

The new service was developed is categorised by Mercedes-Benz as a ’CASE Project’, which means it comes under its specific area of strategy focussing on connectivity, autonomous driving, sharing and electric drive systems.

Croove will initially be launched in Munich and will allow private vehicle owners to share their car, no matter what brand, provided that it is in good condition and no more than 15 years old. Hirers can then simply register and contact potential vehicle owners to arrange appointments to pick up and drop off the vehicle.

The smartphone app will be available to download from the iTunes store in December, with an Android and desktop version expected to follow soon after.
