Germany to retest high CO2 producing cars

News

A government committee in Germany has asked for further tests on 30 cars it believes have ‘inexplicably high’ CO2 emissions.

The news comes after Germany originally tested the diesel cars for defeat devices after Volkswagen Group admitted to cheating emissions tests. However, officials identified that many of the cars also showed high levels of emissions of CO2.

A spokeswoman from the German transport ministry told Automotive News Europe: “Out of 53 cars tested for illegal software, 30 were showing inexplicably high CO2 emissions. The experts are now looking into this.”

Following the results of tests, the findings will be presented in a report published by the committee.
