The BVRLA has announced that Toby Poston will be its next Chief Executive, taking up the role on January 1st 2025 after Gerry Keaney retires at the end of the year.

Gerry Keaney will be stepping down from his role as chief executive of the BVRLA at the end of 2024, after more than 11 years in the lead role.

During his leadership, the BVRLA has overseen significant growth and development across all the association’s core activities. Annual revenues have increased more than threefold, while membership numbers have expanded by over 50% to more than 1,000 organisations. A particular success during Keaney’s tenure has been in the leasing broker sector, with more than 320 members and with an industry leading compliance programme.

The BVRLA has launched an updated version of its Fair Wear and Tear Standard for cars, which is widely accepted as a reference point when determining end-of-contract charges.

The updated Fair Wear & Tear Standard reflects the latest technologies and driver habits. Input was compiled from BVRLA members, auction houses and common issues handled via the association’s Alternative Dispute Resolution service. Several changes have been introduced regarding electric vehicles, including the requirement for them to have a full charge at the point of collection.

The Procurement Partnership Limited (TPPL) has launched a new Vehicle Rental Framework in partnership with Commercial Services Kent Limited (CSKL) providing UK public bodies with a compliant route to 41 leading vehicle rental companies for the next four years.

The new Framework builds on the success of the previous iteration which was for the rental of Passenger Cars, LCVs, MCVs, Welfare Accessible Buses and Coaches, Sweepers and Heavy Goods Vehicles up to 44 tonnes.

The BVRLA has published its latest Quarterly Leasing Survey showing that average CO2 emissions for members’ new car registrations have fallen below 100g/km for the first time ever.

During the Q4-2020 reporting period, average CO2 emissions were 98g/km compared to the average UK car fleet of 114.2g/km, highlighting the green credentials of the vehicle leasing sector.

BVRLA rental and leasing members, who collectively own and operate 1-in-10 cars, vans and trucks on UK roads continue to drive the uptake of electric vehicles by adding more EV’s to their fleet mix.

Northgate have agreed a deal with PSA for 250 e-Experts for their customers in 2021.

With a range of up to 211 miles on the 75kWh battery and a maximum payload of up to 1,226kg on the 50kWh battery, the e-Expert is a mid-sized van with a charging time from only 45 minutes (up to 80%) on 100kW fast charging.

Data from the BVRLA’s Q4 2019 Quarterly Leasing Survey shows that the rise in battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations has helped take average new lease car emissions down to 113g/km CO2 at the end of 2019, the lowest level since Q3 2018.

BEVs were responsible for more than four per cent of new lease car registrations, a 750% growth in market share compared to the same period in 2018. As the BEV share of the new lease car market grew, it counteracted the inflationary impact of the new WLTP emissions standard, which had increased most petrol and diesel emissions by 10-20%.
