Wiltshire Council's Five Rivers Health & Wellbeing Centre is installing a 3ti solar car park constructed from sustainable timber beams and solar panels with bifacial technology, which is due to open in April.

The facility also includes Papilio3® pop-up solar car park and EV charging hub which is built around a recycled shipping container.

Sharp falls in the cost of renewable generation means that Britain should aim for renewables to meet two thirds of electricity needs by 2030, according to the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC).

The NIC also says this can be delivered at the same overall cost as meeting only half of total demand by that date.

This has led the Commission to update its recommended target for deployment of renewables as part of a low cost low carbon electricity system, from 50 per cent to 65 per cent by 2030.

Britain set to pass two months without burning coal for power

On Wednesday this week (10 June), Britain will have gone two full months without burning coal to generate power, the BBC has reported.

Electricity demand fell when Britain went into lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic and the National Grid responded by taking power plants off the network and using renewable power instead.

The last coal generator came off the system at midnight on 9 April, with no coal being burnt for electricity since.

This period of being coal-free beats the previous record of 18 days, 6 hours and 10 minutes which was set in June last year.

The full smart home battery solution includes an EO Genius electric vehicle charger and a 4.8kWh Moixa Smart Battery, all connected to a customer’s solar panels and managed via GridShare - Moixa’s smart-energy management software.
