Ander & White acquires first temperature controlled electric truck

Fine art logistics provider Gander & White has acquired its first electric truck, which has replaced a refrigerated diesel model.

The new Volvo FL Electric 4x2 rigid will service customer deliveries across the capital, transporting an array of high-value goods, including paintings, sculptures and antiques.

Gander & White’s successfully trialed a similar demonstration model, which highlighted the operational and sustainability potential of switching to electric power.

Wiltshire Council has invested in an electric refuse vehicle, which will be trialled by its waste collection contractor, Hills Waste Solutions Ltd.

The Volvo FE Low Entry Cab RCV will be trialled at operating depots and assigned to household waste collection rounds, initially starting in largely urban rounds in the northern areas of the county including Calne and Chippenham. It will later be trialled in the city of Salisbury. The trial will later look to assess the vehicle's performance in semi-urban, semi-rural, and finally the mainly rural rounds.

Scuderia Ferrari HP have added fifteen IVECO natural gas powered S-Way trucks and a Daily van to its fleet, which will be used to transport the Formula 1 team’s race cars and equipment to world championship circuits.

Additionally, an electric eDaily van will join the fleet to support plant logistics.

Waste and resource management company LondonEnergy has taken delivery of a Volvo FM Electric 6x2 tractor unit for its recycling operations.

The new all-electric vehicle will be tasked with collecting unrecyclable waste from the business’ transfer station, in Islington. A portion will then be delivered to its energy centre, in Edmonton, where it will be turned into renewable electricity, while any dry mixed recycling will be transported to a local Material Recycling Facility for processing.

The Association of Fleet Professionals (AFP) has revised its Tax and Regulation Manifesto ahead of the General Election.

The first edition of the document was created in 2021 and this latest version has grown to 24 points from the original 13.

According to SMMT data, battery electric van (BEV) registrations are up 15.0% since January. 17,289 BEVs have joined UK roads in 2023, accounting for almost one in 18 new vans registered across the year.

However, data for November shows that battery electric van registrations fell for the second month, as 1,631 units were registered – some 343 fewer than in November last year.

According to the latest SMMT figures, purchases of new battery electric vans was up 85.9% to 2,882 units in September – accounting for one in 16 new vans registered in the month.

As a result, a UK record 14,296 electric vans have been registered since January, resulting in 5.5% of the overall market.

The Association of Fleet Professionals has found that some van fleets are returning to established emission reduction strategies as their electrification process slows.

Paul Hollick, chair of AFP explained that an increasing number are working to further reduce CO2 in their existing diesel vehicles whilst wait for electric vehicles to become more viable for their operations.
