UK Power Networks has published a new guide to set out exactly what land consents need to be in place before EV chargepoint hub installers apply to connect their site to the electricity grid.

Every year the firm receives up to 100 applications from customers wanting to connect an EV charging hub site, and some require 3MVA of power - equivalent to powering more than 2,000 homes.

A new report from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has found that government has been slow to address gaps in charge point provision and calls for delays in the EV charging roll-out to be addressed.

It also raises concerns around regional divides and inequalities for different groups of drivers.

The report finds that approximately a third of the 114 motorway service areas had yet to meet DfT’s original ambitions for each to have six ultra-rapid charge points by the end of 2023.

The Midlands has secured over £40 million in government investment for electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Thirteen local authorities across the Midlands, supported by Midlands Connect, have received £40.8 million from the Local EV Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund to roll out thousands of chargers across the region.

There are already over 10,000 public chargers already available across the Midlands. Today's announcement will enable more drivers across the Midlands easy access to charging near their home.

Motorway services operator Moto has announced its plans to roll out a national network of electric Heavy Goods Vehicle (eHGV) charging stations.

Moto plans to install up to 300 eHGV charging bays over 23 strategically located superhubs by 2030. Construction of the first two eHGV superhubs at Exeter and Tamworth targeted to start in April, following recent planning approval.

The number of public charge points in the UK has surpassed 75,000, the latest data from Zapmap shows.

As of the end of February, there are 75,675 charge points in the UK, with high-powered devices continuing to show the strongest growth. The figures represent a 32% year-on-year increase compared to February 2024, when 57,290 devices were recorded.

Operated by Ionity, the 75,000th public charge point is one of eight ultra-rapid and four rapid devices installed at the Village Hotel, Bristol.

There are now 1,407 electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints outside schools and colleges across the UK, thanks to £3 million from the government’s Workplace Charging Scheme specifically for education settings, which started last March.

The government has confirmed that the Workplace Charging Scheme for state-funded education institutions has been extended for another year.

BP has announced the launch of its first new format EV charging and convenience hub at Cromwell Road on the A4 in Hammersmith, London.

Fuel has been removed from the site and five ultra-fast bp pulse 300kW chargers installed, each capable of charging two cars simultaneously, with canopies over the chargers. Along with a redesigned convenience store, with upgraded wildbean cafe and M&S Food offer, to cater especially for EV drivers and customers on the go.

Islington Council is set to install a range of AC, DC and high-speed EV chargers over the next two years to support its electric fleet of over 500 vehicles.

The project will see Compleo install and maintain a mix of AC and DC chargers tailored to meet the diverse needs of Islington Council’s fully electric fleet which range from electric cars to coaches and tipper trucks.
