The Climate Change Committee (CCC) has called on the government to urgently make electricity more affordable for consumers in order to unlock the full benefits of the green transition, including faster adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and heat pumps.

In its first major assessment of the new government’s progress on reducing emissions, the CCC says that although progress has been made, stronger action is needed to hit legally binding climate targets and deliver tangible benefits to households and businesses.

In the Spending Review 2025, Chancellor Rachel Reeves has announced a commitment to spend £2.6bn on decarbonising transport, £1.4bn of which is to support the continued uptake of electric cars, vans and trucks.

It also includes £400 million for the further rollout of charging infrastructure.

The Spending Review also commits to extending the Advanced Fuels Fund to 2029-30 to support the production of sustainable aviation fuel, as well as £616 million to build and maintain walking and cycling infrastructure.

Zemo Partnership is holding a forum for members to identify gaps in the policy framework for decarbonising UK road transport and propose actionable solutions.

Commissioned by the European Climate Foundation (ECF), Zemo has been asked to build on elements of the Delivery Roadmap for Net Zero Transport (which it published last December) and to define a ‘Map of Missing Policies’ needed to accelerate UK road transport’s transition to net zero.

Transport for London’s (TfL) commitments on climate action have been recognised with the gold standard from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

SBTi validated TfL’s near and long-term emission reduction targets, and net-zero target in line with limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels, meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Europcar Mobility Group UK has joined forces with local councils to plant trees across some of the biggest UK cities, helping to improve the cities’ green spaces and air quality, whilst boosting local ecosystems and wildlife habitats.

Europcar colleagues have taken part in planting schemes in London, Glasgow, Cardiff and Nottingham, planting 4,500 young saplings, as part of future woodland creation projects.

Vehicle movement specialist Engineius has reported that it has saved fleets over 10 million tonnes in CO2 emissions since it launched in 2018 by not using chaser vehicles.

Research conducted by Engineius with a major utility business highlighted that using chaser vehicles resulted in 24 miles driven for every 10 miles required. These findings ensured that Engineius adopted a different approach when drivers are moving between pick-up and drop-off sites.
