High demand sees Co Wheels extend hyrbid fleet in Brighton

Co Wheels is expanding its Car Club fleet in Brighton and Hove due to exceptionally high demand from local residents one year since its launch.

The car club has introduced additional MG3 Hybrid vehicles at seven new locations across the city, giving members more cars, more choice and greater flexibility when they need to get on the road.

Since the initial rollout last year, Co Wheels usage in Brighton and Hove has exceeded expectations, driven by members seeking affordable, low-emission alternatives to car ownership.

E-bike subscription company Blike has partnered with Brompton to provide bikes to vehicle movement specialist Engineius for their UK-wide network of over 600 drivers.

The bikes, complete with special branded carry cases provided by Carridice, will be used by the drivers to help them move efficiently between customer sites where they collect and deliver vehicles. Following a survey of their drivers, Engineius calculates an annual saving of between £500 and £3,000 per driver based on typical costs for past public transport and taxi usage.

Organisations and businesses can bid for a share of £1 million in funding to help them to enable more active travel, such as walking, wheeling or cycling, Active Travel England (ATE) has announced.

The Active Travel Innovation Fund is inviting applications from small to medium-sized businesses and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), with grants of up to £100,000 available for each successful project.

England’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure is overlooking disabled drivers, a new report from independent watchdog, Transport Focus, has found.

The watchdog is therefore calling for the Government to outline its plan for how, and when, an accessible EV charging infrastructure will be delivered.

Despite the government’s transition to zero emissions vehicles and ZEV mandate, there are no chargers on England’s motorways and major ‘A’ roads that have been accredited with the voluntary standards for accessible charging.

More than a third of UK councils do not provide any on-street electric vehicle (EV) charging suitable for disabled drivers, according to new Freedom of Information (FOI) research by Vauxhall.

111 of the 289 councils who responded to Vauxhall said they have no on-street charge points that have either been specifically adapted for disabled drivers, or any that follow the British Standards Institution’s PAS 1899:2022, a national accessible charging standard co-sponsored by the Motability Foundation and UK Government.
