Mitie’s 6,000th electric vehicle added to fleet

Mitie has added its 6,000th electric vehicle to its fleet, taking the company towards its ambitious target of reaching net zero.

Minister for the future of roads, Lilian Greenwood MP,  unveiled the vehicle, and heard how Mitie is embracing the switch to greener travel, and its plans to further decarbonise the rest of their fleet.

The 6,000th EV will join Mitie’s electrical engineering business, ESM Power, and will be the first EV to do so. ESM Power is working towards decarbonising the UK’s energy grid, and the EV will join a fleet that transports engineers travelling an average of 200 miles a day to complete projects such as maintaining and installing networks for battery storage and solar connections.

Mitie has reached milestones of its 4,000th, 5,000th, and 6,000th EV vehicle within this year alone, and now 73 per cent of its fleet is fully electric. Having started this journey in 2018, this is a fundamental part of the company’s ‘Plan Zero’ initiative, in which they aim to reach net zero carbon emissions in its operations by 2025.

Alongside switching to EVs, Mitie is also committed to supporting the roll out of charging infrastructure across the UK to make sure EVs have access to the clean, renewable energy they need. To date, Mitie has installed over 6,000 charge points across its colleagues’ homes and customer sites.
