Nissan has unveiled its futuristic, all-electric BladeGlider prototype, which combines a zero emissions powertrain with high performance motoring.

The vehicle was unveiled in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil ahead of the 2016 Olympic games, and is designed to ‘symbolise future technologies that will combine Intelligent Mobility, environmentally-friendly impact and sports-car driving capabilities’.

The powertrain was designed in partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering, and features two 130kW electric motors, which are powered by a high performance five module lithium-ion 220kW battery.

The vehicle boasts a top speed on 115 mph and is capable of accelerating from 0-62mpg in less than five seconds.

A notable feature of the prototype are the ear-hinged dihedral doors, which provide a dramatic entry and exit into the cabin, as well as its open roof reinforced with an integrated roll-over protection structure.

Carlos Ghosn, president and chief executive officer, Nissan, said: “These prototypes epitomise Nissan’s drive to expand its intelligent mobility strategy, where driving pleasure combines with environmental responsibility. Nissan believes that enthusiasts should look forward to a zero emission future and BladeGlider is a perfect demonstration of that. It’s the electric vehicle for car-lovers.”
