Mitie
Mitie’s transition to an electric fleet launched in December 2018. Our first electric vehicle (EV) joined our fleet in May 2019, and the rollout has only accelerated since. Mitie now has the largest pure electric fleet in the UK, with 1703 EVs. These EVs prevent 8515 tonnes of carbon from being emitted annually, and the transition has so far saved over £1.5million due to lower maintenance, taxation, and fuel costs. Over 1280 chargepoints have been installed; our partnership with Mina allows direct payment for our employees home-charging, and ensures renewable energy is used. This platform is then also used to encourage employees to power their homes with renewable sources. Targets have been set to achieve a 30% electric fleet by the end of this financial year (FY), and we are already 83% towards that target. These targets continue to FY24/25, where we aim for an 85% electric fleet. 100% is the ultimate goal, however due to the infancy of specialist electric vehicles, we will only be able to transition this section of the fleet when technology allows.
Aside from our EV transition, we continuously introduce measures to make our remaining ICE fleet more environmentally efficient, including a buzzer to prevent idling, saving 195 tonnes of carbon annually; and driver behaviour lightbars to address and eliminate inefficient driving techniques. Trials are also ongoing to ensure the latest technologies are used. A trial of the Lytx Dashcam has progressed with great success, delivering a 60% incident reduction in the sample group. These technologies are the future, and will enable Mitie to reach the next level in road safety. A 28% reduction in fuel consumption has also been recorded year on year, due to a combination of these initiatives.
Mitie continues to lead the industry with its EV commitments and accomplishments. Through conducting this strategy in-house, we now have the insight and knowledge to support our customers along their own electrification and decarbonisation journey. As part of our Plan Zero initiative, we support customers achieve Net-Zero across their built environment and transport operations. This includes a comprehensive suite of offerings, from consulting services to full turnkey design and project delivery capabilities, ongoing operations, and maintenance, as well as the funding options needed to deliver these decarbonisation strategies. From a transport perspective, Mitie provides end-to-end, integrated EV infrastructure solutions for customers, acting as a one-stop shop to create and deliver their EV strategies.
