Edinburgh to roll out Low Emission Zone

News

Edinburgh is planning to introduce Scotland's second Low Emission Zone (LEZ) in order to reduce air pollution.

According to Next Green Car, the city’s councillors are planning to approach the Scottish government, which is believed to fund a pilot by 2017.

The Scottish parliament has already announced Glasgow will get the first experimental LEZ, which will allow the city authorities to ban the vehicles with the highest emissions from the city centre.

An Edinburgh Council spokeswoman said: "We are committed to addressing air pollution as a priority through a range of integrated projects, including reducing congestion and investment in improved public transport, cycling infrastructure and active travel, in addition to exploring the potential for a low emission zone.
