VW outlines plans for electric car charging in poor California areas

Volkswagen AG has announced it will be expanding its efforts to build electric car infrastructure in poorer communities in California.

This is in response to regulators who pointed out that there were “shortcomings” in VW’s plan.

The California Air Resources Board in May said that VW's Electrify America unit needed to spell out how it would spend 35 percent of funds in lower-income areas.

The automaker has now agreed to spend $800 million in California and £2 billion nationwide on clean car infrastructure in light of the company’s diesel emission cheating scandal.

In a recent detailed plan, VW has said it aims to spend 35 per cent of investment funds in disadvantaged areas during the first $200 million, 30-month tranche.
