Honda’s Clarity fuel cell vehicle debuts in Tokyo

Honda has officially unveiled its next generation Fuel Cell vehicle, the Clarity, at the Tokyo Motor Show.

The new Clarity follows on from Honda’s FCX Clarity, although the new design is set for a much wider release and aims to rival the Toyota Mirai and the Hyundai ix35.

Honda has designed the fuel cell stack and drive train to be comparable in size to a V6 engine and fit into the space normally used for an engine and transmission, so as not to compromise interior space.

The car is due to be released in Europe by the end of 2016 and claims a range of over 435 miles on one tank of hydrogen, using the same high-pressure filling system of the Mirai, which takes about three minutes to refuel.
