News

The finalists for the Green Car of the Year 2016 have been revealed, including a number of green nominations across several categories.

The finalists for the green award include the BMW 330e plug-in hybrid, the Chevrolet Volt range-extender, the Toyota Prius hybrid, the Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell and Volkswagen’s Passat GTE plug-in hybrid.

Furthermore, the overall World Car of the Year list contains a number of green vehicles, despite not possessing a green focus. The nominated vehicles include the new Toyota Prius which produces just 70g/km of CO2 in addition to the Audi A4, Jaguar XE and Skoda Superb which all emit less than 100g/km of CO2.

The Performance Car Award was the only category which lacked a low emission model, whilst the Luxury Car Award maintains three low emission vehicles out of its five nominees.

The winners will be selected based on the number of votes obtained from 74 motoring journalists from around the world, with no affiliation to any specific manufacturer or publication. Cars are judged with regard to their performance, value, environmental effect, market significance and emotional appeal.

The award winners will be announced at the New York Motor Show on Thursday 24 March.
