Route Monkey teams with IBM for EV platform

News

Mobility solutions company Route Monkey is set to become a reseller of IBM’s innovative electric vehicle (EV) platform, as it gears up for a global expansion of its EV technology.

The platform was originally developed in conjunction with Ireland’s Electricity Supply Board (ESB) and enables EV drivers to use one ID card to access all brands of charging stations, as well as a smartphone app that allows drivers to locate and advance book time at charge points.

The two companies are looking to strengthen ties, with Route Monkey’s smart energy and mobility algorithms running on IBM’s platform to enhance IBM’s offering as energy integrators to utility companies.

Martin Rapos, who led the European electric mobility and decentralised energy business at IBM, will join the board of Route Monkey as director for energy and mobility, with a remit to develop opportunities in mainland Europe for the company’s growing portfolio of software-based mobility solutions.

Rapos said: “Advancing our partnership is a natural step, building on the successful global collaborations between IBM and Route Monkey and leveraging the strengths of both.

“In Route Monkey, IBM now has a dedicated ‘go-to’ partner in the innovative space of electric and smart mobility that will promote its EV platform. Furthermore, as part of IBM’s ecosystem, Route Monkey can leverage the vast resources of IBM to help scale up its projects anywhere in the world.”
