Greater Manchester works with European cities to tackle carbon emissions

News

Transport experts from across Europe are drawing up plans to help reduce carbon emissions created by retail-related traffic in town and city centres.

Transport for Greater Manchester is taking part in the work, which forms part of the EU’s RESOLVE project which addresses two urgent challenges in European cities: the declining retail sector and the increasing need to reduce CO2.

These include finding out more about Rotterdam’s cycling infrastructure - a city where the bike is at the forefront of sustainable travel - and the public transport, park and ride schemes and electric vehicle infrastructure which makes Reggio Emilia in Italy a leader in mobility planning.

Transport experts have analysed one another’s work and are now planning how to replicate and deliver the best measures for reducing carbon emissions.

The culmination of a year’s learning and best practice-sharing across nine partners – including Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) – in eight EU countries, the next phase of the project is planning how to replicate and deliver the leading measures already taking place across Europe.
