Daimler and BYD develop electric car with 250-mile range

Daimler’s joint venture with Chinese carmaker BYD has launched an upgraded version of the Denza electric vehicle to have a range of 250 miles.

The Denza launched in 2014 with a 47.5kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and a range of 188 miles, and sold 3,000 units in its first full year on sale.

The Denza 400 features a new battery with a capacity of 62kWh, but which isn’t physically larger than the old one. It also gets a upgraded motor and electronic control unit. This is claimed to offer a range of almost 250 miles to a single charge.

Hubertus Troska, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Greater China, said: “We are confident about the future prospect of new energy vehicles in the country. Daimler will continue to invest in research and development of efficient and eco-friendly new energy vehicles, which represent a key pillar of our China growth strategy.”
